NEW YORK – Seton Hall's Jake Barrett (Huddersfield, England) was named the BIG EAST Conference men's soccer Freshman of the Week on Monday.
Barrett scored the lone goal in the Pirates' win over La Salle in their home opener on Saturday. The freshman was able to sneak one past the outstretched arm of the Explorers' keeper in the seventh minute of the match. He then helped to anchor down The Hall's defense, logging all 90 minutes to help preserve the shutout and victory.
In his first career start, Barrett also saw the field for an extended period of time logging 78 minutes in the season-opening draw at NJIT on Wednesday.
Barrett is the first Pirate to win the award since CJ Tibbling (Jarna, Sweden) did so three times throughout the course of the 2018 season.
Providence's Christopher Roman was named BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week, while Connecticut's Felix Metzler was named Defensive Player of the Week. Nathan Schnur of Creighton earned Goalkeeper of the Week honors.
Seton Hall will return to action on Wednesday when they host Farleigh Dickinson at 6 p.m. The Pirates will then open conference play as they take on St. John's, also at Owen T. Carroll Field. The game is scheduled for 3 p.m.
