
Smith Earns Spot on BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll

NEW YORK – Seton Hall's Shelby Smith (Friendswood, Texas) was awarded a spot on the BIG EAST's Weekly Honor Roll, the conference announced on Monday. Smith earned the win in the circle for the Pirates on Sunday and had success at the plate in The Hall's BIG EAST opening series against Butler.
In three games in the circle, Smith threw 13.2 innings while striking out 16 in the process to the tune of a 2.56 ERA for the Pirates. In the second game on Saturday, Smith threw a complete game while striking out nine Butler batters, a BIG EAST single-game high in a conference game this season.
On Sunday, Smith earned the win for The Hall, tossing five scoreless innings of relief to go along with four punchouts. The sophomore also picked up a clutch RBI double off the wall in right to tie the game at four in the sixth inning.
In six at-bats over the weekend, Smith hit .500 with two doubles and three runs batted in.
Smith is the third Pirate this season to received weekly recognition from the conference this season after Kelsey Carr was the BIG EAST Freshman of the Week and Darby Pandolfo earned an Honor Roll spot last week.
As a team, the Pirates went 1-2 to open conference play against Butler. Seton Hall will return to action on Wednesday when they travel to Fordham for a midweek rematch with the Rams. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
