No. 22 Pirates Come Back at St. John's for Thrilling Overtime Win, 3-2
3/17/2021 9:27:00 PM | Men's Soccer
The Pirates earned their third straight BIG EAST victory and remain tied atop the East Division standings with #3 Georgetown at 13 points apiece. The win also puts the Pirates two games ahead of Providence and St. John's in the win column.
After a scoreless first, the Red Storm struck quickly in the second half scoring twice in the first eight minutes of play. Wesley Leggett was able to score off of a rebound from the post before Jared Juleau found the back of the net a few minutes later to double the Red Storm lead at home.
Turning Point
With the Pirates down two goals to nil, JP Marin (Briarwood, N.Y.) sparked the Pirate offense, drawing a foul in the box and converting the subsequent penalty kick to half the Johnnies' lead. The goal for Marin was his second in as many games after the junior came away with the game-winning goal against then-number 13 Providence on Saturday.
With new life, The Hall upped their second half attack until they finally broke through in the 73rd minute of play. After receiving an entry pass from Mattias Almeida Sundell (Sweden) into the box, CJ Tibbling (Jarna, Sweden) volleyed the ball to himself as he was able to bend the game-tying goal past the Red Storm keeper and into the upper corner of the net.

The goal was Tibbling's team-leading fourth of the season. The Tibbling goal along with some timely goal keeping from Andreas Nota (Rome, Italy) down the stretch was enough to help The HALL erase the two goal second half deficit and send things into overtime.
Just three minutes into the overtime period, Marin passed to Denis Kelmendi (Falkenberg, Sweden) along the sidelines who found Raz Amir (Israel) in the center of the box. Amir fought off the Red Storm defender and scored the game-winning goal for the Pirates.
