
Smith Named to BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll

NEW YORK – Seton Hall's Shelby Smith (Friendswood, Texas) was awarded a spot on the BIG EAST's Weekly Honor Roll, the conference announced on Monday. Smith slashed .400/.462/.900 with two doubles, 4 RBIs and hit her first career home run to go along with a 10-strikeout complete game last weekend at the Tiger Invitational hosted by Auburn University.
In the Pirates' season opener on Saturday, Smith tossed all seven innings for The Hall while punching out 10 UMass Lowell hitters. At the dish Smith picked up her first of two doubles on the weekend. In game two, Smith provided pop at the plate going 2-for-3 including her first career collegiate home run with a two-run shot against Auburn in the sixth.
Smith would continue her strong offensive push on day two of the tournament, picking up two more RBIs as well as another double to cap off the Pirates' opening weekend of play. For her performances both at the plate and in the circle, Smith was named to the Tiger Invitational's All-Tournament team along with teammate Abby Wingo (Portland, Ore.). Wingo hit .500 with two doubles and two runs driven in over four games.
The Pirates will be back in action for four more games starting on Saturday when the Pirates take part in the Retriever Round Robin #1 hosted by UMBC. The Pirates will play four games over two days with two matchups apiece against UMBC and Saint Joseph's.
