AUSTIN, Texas – Seton Hall men's soccer junior defender Sam Bjork (Huskvarna, Sweden) has been named to the College Sports Communicators Second Team Academic All-America, the program announced on Tuesday. Bjork becomes the third Pirate in the last four seasons to receive the honor, joining Luca Dahn in 2022 and CJ Tibbling in 2020.
CSC Academic All-America honors student-athletes for their combined performance on the field as well as in the classroom. Student-athletes must be at least a sophomore with at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average to be considered. Student-athletes also must compete in at least 90 percent of team games or start in at least 66 percent of contests.
Bjork started all 17 games during the 2023 season for the Pirates, scoring two goals and notching four assists. Bjork's eight points ranked him fourth on the team. His play on the backline as a versatile defender helped aid the Pirates to a program-best 332:38 shutout streak to begin the season.
In his first season with the Pirates, Bjork made his presence felt early in the campaign. In just the third game of the season, Bjork helped the Pirates secure a key victory over Ohio State. The junior scored the lone goal of the match, finding the back of the net in the 81st minute to deliver the Pirates a 1-0 win over the Buckeyes. For his efforts, Bjork was named to the College Soccer News Team of the Week.
Bjork has starred in the classroom during his time in South Orange. The Huskvarna, Sweden native has accumulated a 4.0 grade point average while pursuing his degree in economics.
