Pirates Drop BIG EAST Opener at UConn

Storrs, Conn. – The Seton Hall softball team dropped its BIG EAST opener on Friday afternoon to UConn by a score of 8-0. Abby Wingo (Portland, Ore.) extended her hitting streak to seven straight games with a fourth inning single in the defeat.
How it Happened
The Pirates came out of the gates showing great plate discipline, drawing three walks within the first five batters to load the bases with two down. Wingo stepped to the plate with an early chance for the Pirates to post a crooked number, but was set down on strikes to end the threat.
UConn responded with three runs in the bottom of the first thanks to a Jana Sanden three-run home run. The Huskies kept it going in the second inning with two more to chase Shelby Smith (Friendswood, Texas) from the game. Kyra Kreuscher (Great River, N.Y.) came on in relief and had her strikeout pitch working early, as five of the first six outs she recorded came via the punchout.
The Huskies would add to their lead in the fourth with a three spot thanks to doubles by Sanden and Taylor Zatyk to stretch the lead to 8-0.
