South Orange, N.J. – Kelsey Carr (Ridgewood, N.Y.) went the distance in the circle and hit what proved to be the game-winning home run as Seton Hall defeated Georgetown, 4-2, in the Pirates' BIG EAST home opener on Friday afternoon. The win brings the Pirates up to .500 in the early stages of conference play.
How it Happened
Carr was able to cruise through the top of the first in the circle, and her offense immediately rewarded her with some run support. After the first three batters reached base safely, Abby Wingo (Portland, Ore.) knocked home the first run of the day on an RBI single to bring home Taylor Hill (Little Falls, N.J.).
In the third, Carr helped out her own cause at the plate. After Lela Allen (Phoenix, Ariz.) was hit by a pitch to open the frame, Carr lined a two-run home run over the wall in left-center field to extend the lead to 3-0.
Georgetown got one run back in the fifth on an RBI double, but the Pirates quickly answered in the bottom half of the inning. With one out, Wingo launched a long home run to right field to push the lead for The Hall back up to three.
The Hoyas played long ball themselves in the sixth as Mae Forshey hit one over the wall in left to make it 4-2. However, that was as close as Georgetown would get in the later stages, as Carr was able to strand a pair of runners in the sixth and set down the side in order in the seventh to preserve the win.
