South Orange, N.J. - James Enzler, who joined the Seton Hall women's tennis program in January, has had the interim tag removed from his title and has been named the team's head coach, Director of Athletics & Recreation Bryan Felt announced Wednesday.
Â
"James has done a terrific job leading our women's tennis program the last three months, and I'm excited we are able to bring him on full time," said Felt. "He exhibits great energy in working with our student-athletes, and I'm confident he will be a positive impact on them in the years ahead."
Â
"I'm incredibly grateful to have this opportunity, and I'm so thankful to Bryan Felt and the supporting staff for having faith in me to continue our mission in making this program the best it can be," Enzler said. "I am confident that we will create a top tier program in the BIG EAST in the coming years. Seton Hall has all the tools and opportunities in place to help these players succeed both in the classroom and on the courts. I am excited to continue to help our current players and our incoming players work hard and achieve success within the program."
Â
While Enzler had been appointed interim head coach in January, he is no stranger to the Pirates tennis program, having served as an assistant under previous head coach Kevin McGlynn for three seasons. In 2018-19, he helped the Pirates to one of the program's most successful campaigns in recent time. The team went 13-9 in dual matches, including a 5-4 record against BIG EAST opponents. The 13 victories represent the most Seton Hall's had in a season since 2004-05. With Enzler on staff, two Pirates earned All-BIG EAST honors in 2019.
Â
Prior to rejoining Seton Hall, Enzler was a tennis professional and UTR tournament coordinator at Murray Hill Tennis & Fitness in New Providence, N.J., where Seton Hall hosts most of its home matches. He also previously was a tennis instructor at the US Sports Institute in Whitehouse Station, N.J.
Â
A 2016 graduate of Midland University with a degree in elementary education and coaching, Enzler was a four-year varsity tennis player for the Warriors. He earned All-Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) honorable mention in doubles twice, and he was a two-time Scholar-Athlete selection.
Â
Enzler and the Pirates conclude the regular season Friday when they host St. John's at the Campus Courts in Ivy Hill Park, and they will then head to the BIG EAST Championship next week in Cayce, S.C.
