NEW YORK – Seton Hall's Mats Roorda (Groningen, Netherlands) has been named BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week and James Boote (Southampton, England) has earned a spot on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, the conference announced Monday afternoon.
Roorda kept a pair of opponents off the scoreboard this past week as the Pirates earned a 1-0 win over Rider on Thursday followed by a 3-0 victory over Air Force on Sunday. In both matches, Roorda was forced to make difficult saves to help preserve Pirate leads. Near halftime on Thursday against Rider, Roorda made a diving save to his left to keep the lead intact for Seton Hall. On Sunday, Roorda raised his gloves up in time to stop a blistering shot from Air Force's Remi Smith and keep momentum on the Pirates' side. All told, Roorda helped the Pirates open the season with back-to-back shutouts for the first time since 2005.
Boote posted a stellar offensive week, scoring two goals and adding an assist in the Pirates' pair of victories. The graduate notched the lone goal in Thursday's 1-0 season opening win over Rider and earned an assist on the game-winning goal in Sunday's win over Air Force. Later on in Sunday's match, Boote would add another goal, blasting a one touch goal from just outside the penalty area in the 65th minute.
The Pirates hit the road for the first time this season as they head to Bloomington, Ind. to take part in the IU Classic. The Hall will square off with Ohio State on Friday afternoon at 4 p.m.
