South Orange, N.J. – The Seton Hall men's soccer team dropped its BIG EAST opener on Friday night to Georgetown, 1-0. The Pirate defense was strong once again, holding a potent Georgetown attack to just six total shots on the evening.
How it Happened
After the two sides jockeyed for momentum, Georgetown jumped out to an early lead in the 16th minute. After a shot from Marlon Tabora was turned away by Mats Roorda (Groningen, Netherlands), the rebound came to the left foot of Jacob Murrell who put one home to give the Hoyas the lead.
Seton Hall's best look of the first half came just before the halftime buzzer, as Andrea Borg (Sliema, Malta) corralled a loose ball on the edge of the penalty area. The graduate student sent a shot that trickled just wide of the far post, keeping the lead with Georgetown at the break.
Early in the second half, the Hoyas looked to double their lead. A shot from Kyle Linhares from just outside the area dove sharply in front of Roorda. The graduate goalkeeper was able to stay in front of the shot and deflect it away from danger.
The Pirates attempted to pick up the pace in the second half, generating more dangerous looks on offense. James Boote (Southampton, England) had a great look at goal from outside the penalty area in the 69th minute, but his attempt was stopped by Georgetown goalkeeper Ryan Schewe.
News & Notes
The Pirates remain home this week to take on Bucknell in non-conference action on Tuesday night at 6:56 p.m.
