South Orange, N.J. – Sydney Babik (Gilbert, Ariz.) and Kelsey Carr (Ridgewood, N.Y.) combined for a one-hit shutout as the Pirates picked up their eighth win over their last nine games with a 4-0 victory over Stony Brook.

How it Happened
The Seawolves' lone hit of the afternoon came with one out in the top of the first on a line drive single to right. That baserunner would quickly be erased by Babik, as she got the next batter to ground into a 6-3 double play.

The Pirates stranded the bases loaded in the bottom of the first, but would cash in in the same situation next inning. Olivia Gilbert (Johnston, R.I.) lined a single to right center with the bases loaded, scoring Andrea Perez (Corona, Calif.) from third with the game's first run. Next, Katey Brennan (Yardley, Pa.) would be hit by a pitch to score the second Seton Hall run.

In the third, the Pirates' lead doubled thanks to some help from the opposition. With two outs and one runner aboard, a Lauren Caye (Pittsburgh, Pa.) fly ball to center field appeared as if it would end the inning. Instead, a drop put two runners in scoring position for Taylor Hill (Little Falls, N.J.). The junior ripped the first pitch she saw into the gap for a two-run double, making it a 4-0 Pirates lead.

After Babik worked the first four innings, Carr came on in relief in the top of the fifth and kept the pitching dominance rolling. Carr faced the minimum in her outing, setting down all nine hitters she faced to lock up the victory.

News & Notes

The one hit allowed by Seton Hall pitching is the fewest since Shelby Smith's no-hitter last season at Providence.
Hill now has hits in 11 of her last 12 games and has hit safely in 20 of 26 games so far this season.
Over her last nine games, Hill is batting .343 (12-for-35) with two home runs and six RBI.
The Pirates are outscoring their opponents 28-9 over their last six games.
