Brennan, Carr Earn BIG EAST Weekly Awards

NEW YORK - Katey Brennan (Yardley, Pa.) has been named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week and Kelsey Carr (Ridgewood, N.Y.) received a spot on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, the conference announced on Monday afternoon. The duo helped the Pirates earn their fourth straight conference series victory by taking two of three at home against Providence this past weekend.
Brennan earns Freshman of the Week honors for the second time this season and has established herself as one of the top first-years in the league. She collected a team-leading six hits over the weekend against the Friars, batting .500 while driving in a pair of runs and scoring three times herself. Brennan had two hits in all three games of the series this weekend, including RBI doubles in each of the final two contests. Her season RBI total went up to 22, which ranks second on the team so far this season.
Carr was teriffic on both sides of the ball this weekend, tying for the team lead with a .500 batting average while posting a 1.75 ERA in the circle. She tossed a complete game victory in game one of the series against Providence, surrendering just three earned runs in the win. In the series finale victory, Carr went 2-for-3 with three runs scored while also pitching five hitless innings in relief to earn the win.
The Pirates return to action on Saturday as they begin a three-game series against Syracuse at 12 p.m.
