Carr, Perez Earn BIG EAST Honors For Opening Weekend Performances

NEW YORK – Kelsey Carr has been named BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week and Andrea Perez was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, the conference announced on Monday.
Carr came in clutch for the Pirates to open the season. Down at the Louisiana Classics, she ended the weekend with 13 innings pitched, four strikeouts and a 1.08 ERA. In the season opener against Louisiana, Carr allowed one earned run in a complete game win against Louisiana. Two days later, Carr followed it up with six innings, four strikeouts and one run allowed against Longwood. Carr returned to the mound with the bases loaded and no outs in the seventh and the game on the line against the Lancers. She quickly collected three outs, securing the win for the Pirates
Perez was a hitting machine to open the season down in the bayou. The junior left Louisiana with a .500 batting average, a four-game on-base streak, one RBI and one steal.
The Pirates return to action this weekend in Fort Myers, Florida, at the Florida Gulf Coast Invitational on Friday.
