GENEVA, Oh. – The Seton Hall women's swimming and diving team wrapped up a record-breaking opening night of competition at the 2025 BIG EAST Championships on Monday night at Spire Academy.
Swimming
The opening night for the women centered on a pair of relays. Festivities began with the 800 freestyle relay. Allie Waggoner opened the event splitting 1:50.88, keeping the Pirates within distance of their competition. As that gap began to widen out of the Pirates favor, however, a new goal became clear. By the time Mandy Zajdzinski, Mia Sunseri and Natalie Heim finished out the final 600 yards, the Pirates found themselves in fourth place. More importantly, however, they broke the school record in the event, a record set back in 2019. Their time of 7:23.44 was almost a second clear of the prior record.
In the 200 medley relay, the team of Amelia Obszarny, Yosun Hacifazioglu, Shun Qi Lim and Lea Moeller completed the race with a time of 1:43.04. Their season-best time by over two seconds nearly broke the school record, but it only earned the Pirates fifth place in the event overall.
Heading into the second day of competition, the Pirates find themselves in tied for fourth place with 102 points overall.
Swimming
The Pirates return to action on Tuesday with Day Two of the BIG EAST Championships. Events include the 500 Free, 200 IM, 50 Free, one-meter board and 200 Free Relay.
