
Pirates Prepare for Penultimate BIG EAST Road Tilt Against Providence

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – After a midweek doubleheader sweep, the Seton Hall softball team (21-14, 7-5 BIG EAST) begins its penultimate BIG EAST road series of the year against the Providence Friars (12-20 Overall, 6-6 Conference) on Friday, April 4, with a doubleheader. First pitch for the opening game is scheduled for 2 p.m.

The Pirates opened this week of play with a home doubleheader against the Army Black Knights on Wednesday. After Army scored first, the Pirates scored seven unanswered to claim a 7-1 victory in game one. In game two, powered by a four-run first inning and three RBI from Andrea Perez, the Pirates swept the doubleheader off the back of a 10-4 victory in game two.

- With the 23-0 win in game one against Wagner, the Pirates set new single-game school records in runs scored (23), winning margin (+23) and walks (14).
- After getting swept by UConn this past weekend, that is the first time the Pirates have been swept by a BIG EAST opponent since the season-opening series against UConn in 2024. It was only the third time the Pirates had been swept during Coach Churchill's tenure.
- With a 23-0 victory against Wagner, the Pirates set new single-game program records for runs scored (23), margin of victory (23) and walks in a game (14).
- Through 28 games, the Pirates have the least stolen bases in the BIG EAST with a total of nine. The next-closest team is Villanova with 20 stolen bases.
- This season, the voracious Pirates offense has produced elite plate discipline numbers. Heading into the week, The Hall ranks 31st in the nation in on-base percentage (.418), 67th in slugging percentage (.478) and third in hit-by-pitches (47). They are also scoring at a prolific pace, ranking 42nd in the nation in runs per game (6.37).
- The Pirates have the best plate discipline in the BIG EAST this season. Through 28 games, the Pirates have 113 walks with only 78 strikeouts.
- After surpassing 200 career hits against Villanova, Hill needs only 19 hits across the remainder of the season to break the current career hits program record held by two-time All-BIG EAST selection Katie Pierce (2003-06) with 225 hits. Taylor Hill has 16 hits in her last nine games.

- So far this season, Seton Hall two-way star Kelsey Carr is having the best season of her storied career. Heading into this week, she is also either is the conference leader or among the leaders in walks (1st, 31), home runs (1st, 12), total bases (1st, 76), saves (T-2nd, 3), on-base percentage (2nd .524), Wins, (3rd, 10), runs (5th, 30), and RBI (T-3rd, 34).
