SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – With the help of a walk-off home run by Katey Brennan, the Seton Hall softball team (9-10, 1-3) downed the UConn Huskies (7-17, 2-2), 5-4, on a windy day at Mike Sheppard Sr. Field.

How It Happened

In the opening innings, the Pirates placed immense early pressure on the UConn Huskies. That pressure paid dividends, swiftly, in the second inning when the Huskies' pitcher failed to field Angelina Benitez's grounder, sending the ball into left field. Both Erin Howard and Andrea Perez scored on the play, putting the Pirates up 2-0.
In the circle, Karissa Dupuis was cruising, allowing only one run and two hits in five innings of work.
UConn would respond in the fifth inning with an RBI single to turn it into a 2-1 game. However, Naya Martinez secured the run back in the bottom of the inning with a sacrifice fly, returning the proceedings to a two-run lead for The Hall, 3-1.
On the precipice of securing their first BIG EAST win, the Pirates quickly found themselves in trouble in the top of the seventh. After the first two batters reached base, back-to-back hits by UConn scored a pair to tie the game at 3-3.
The very next at-bat, a costly error at second base sent the Pirates down for the first time in the game, 4-3, at the end of the inning.
Now in a hole with three outs to play with, The Hall needed to find an answer quickly. After a one-out double from Benitez, Katey Brennan stepped to the plate looking to tie the game. She would do more than tie the game, however. The junior launched a ball over the right field wall for a walk-off home run and a 5-4 Seton Hall win.

With the win, the Pirates move to 9-10 on the season and 1-3 in BIG EAST play.
Brennan logged her first home run of the season.
Dupuis earned her second win of the season.
Martinez reached 10 RBI on the season.

The Pirates continue BIG EAST play on Saturday March 14, when they kick off a three-game series against the UConn Huskies in South Orange. First pitch for the second game is slated for 12 p.m.
