Email: Patrick.Hughes@shu.edu PJ Hughes joined the Seton Hall University swimming & diving staff in the fall of 2011 and is in his second season as the Pirates[apos] head men[apos]s and women[apos]s diving coach. Year two under Hughes was a banner year for SHU divers. Sophomore Ben Mitchell shattered the school records from both the one and three-meter boards, posting the highest scores in program history regardless of gender and distance. He went on to finish in the top-10 from both boards at the conference championship, becoming just the second athlete to represent Seton Hall in an A final on the conference stage. Mitchell[apos]s historic year culminated in an impressive performance at the NCAA Zone A Regional Championship in Blacksburg, Va. as he placed 18th in the three-meter competition, ahead of conference champions from the America East, BIG EAST and Colonial conferences. For his assault on the record board, Mitchell was honored as Seton Hall[apos]s Sophomore Male Athlete of the Year at the conclusion of the academic year. SHU also saw all four of its divers, including two freshmen, qualify for and score at the BIG EAST Championships in 2013. During his first year overseeing the SHU diving program Hughes saw three student-athletes qualify for the BIG EAST Championships and freshman men[apos]s diver Ben Mitchell set a then school record in the one-meter springboard (287.25). Hughes was a four-year letterwinner in diving at Seton Hall and was a multiple BIG EAST Championship qualifier. He served two years as a team captain for the Pirates and was a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) from 2009-10. Prior to coming to Seton Hall, Hughes spent one season as the diving coach for York High School in York, N.Y., and also coached the York Middle School diving program in 2011. Hughes graduated from SHU in May 2010 with a degree in psychology and is currently pursuing a master[apos]s degree in physical education at Hofstra University.
