With the score tied at 1-1, Seton Hall used a six-run second inning to take an early lead. With two on and one out, freshman left fielder Casey Grimm (Morristown, NJ) singled to right, driving home junior shortstop Tony Calabrese (Riverside, CT) and junior designated hitter Brian Leighton (Brewster, NY). Following a sacrifice by sophomore center fielder Mike Bascom (Ocean Township, NJ), junior second baseman Joe Cuervo (Warren, NJ) walked. Senior third baseman Ray Navarrete (Colts Neck, NJ) followed with an RBI single, scoring Grimm. Senior first baseman Alfie Critelli (Summit, NJ) capped off the inning with a three-run home run, his 11th of the season, to give the Pirates a 7-1 lead.
The Bears chipped away at the Seton Hall lead, but New York Tech could not rally from the early deficit.
Critelli went 2-for-5 with four RBI, while Navarrete finished with three his, two RBI and three runs scored.
Junior right-hander Shawn Tarkington (Peekskill, NY) pitched four scoreless innings to earn his first save of the season.
The Pirates host Fairfield at 3:30 p.m. on April 13.
