Baseball Blanks Hofstra, 10-0

SOUTH ORANGE, NJ (April 6, 2000) -- The Seton Hall baseball team shutout Hofstra, 10-0, on Thursday at Owen T. Carroll Field. The Pirates improve to 18-8 overall, while Hofstra falls to 6-12-1.
Five pitchers combined for the shutout. Freshman starter Brett Hoffman (Little Rock, AR) allowed only two hits while striking out four in five innings to earn his first collegiate win.
Senior first baseman Alfie Critelli (Summit, NJ) led the Pirates with three hits, including his team-leading 10th home run of the season, a solo shot to left in the third inning. Junior designated hitter Brian Leighton (Brewster, NY) went 2-for-3 with a double and three RBI, while sophomore center fielder Mike Bascom (Ocean Township, NJ) drove in two runs with a pair of singles.
Seton Hall resumes BIG EAST play with a three-game series against Villanova on April 8-9. The Pirates host the Wildcats in a doubleheader at Owen T. Carroll Field on April 8. The two teams will play a single game at Riverfront Stadium, home of the Newark Bears, on April 9. Play begins at noon on both days.
