
Leighton Named BIG EAST Co-Player of the Week

SOUTH ORANGE, NJ - Seton Hall senior designated hitter Kevin Leighton (Brewster, NY), who led the Pirates to a pair of victories to end the season, was named BIG EAST Co-Player of the Week as announced by the conference office.
Leighton, who shares the award with Rutgers second baseman Matt Wolski, batted .529 (9-for-17) with seven runs batted in and 10 runs scored in four games last week. In the three-game weekend series against West Virginia, he went 8-for-12 (.667) with three walks for an on-base percentage of .733.
In the Pirates' 18-8 win over the Mountaineers last Saturday, Leighton was a perfect 5-for-5 with a double, two triples and five runs scored. On Sunday, he drove in a pair of runs to raise his career total to 101 as Seton Hall clinched a BIG EAST Tournament berth with an 18-3 win over West Virginia.
Leighton began the week by hitting a first-inning grand slam in the Pirates 11-7 win over Princeton. His slugging percentage for the week was 1.000 (17 total bases in 17 at-bats). For the season, he has four homes runs and 30 runs batted in.
