
Tarkington, Cuervo and Grimm Earn All-BIG EAST Honors

SOMERSET, NJ - Seton Hall University senior Shawn Tarkington (Peekskill, NY) was named to the All-BIG EAST Baseball First Team as announced at the conference's annual tournament banquet. Senior Joe Cuervo (Warren, NJ) was a Second Team All-BIG EAST selection while sophomore Casey Grimm (Morristown, NJ) was named to the Third Team.
Tarkington represented Seton Hall as a utility player on the First Team. As a pitcher, he tied for the team lead with five wins while striking out a team-high 57 batters. Tarkington struggled early in the season, but since returning from the team's Florida trip, he is 5-1 with a 3.19 earned run average. In his last 48 innings, he has given up just 30 hits while striking out 53. He has seen action in eight games as a designated hitter. In 16 at bats, Tarkington has seven hits, including three home runs.
A Second Team All-BIG EAST selection for the second straight season, Cuervo batted .364. The rightfielder led Seton Hall in stolen bases (20), doubles (17) and triples (4), and was tied for the team lead with five home runs. His .578 slugging percentage also led the team.
Grimm, the Pirates' starting leftfielder in all 51 games, led the team with a .371 batting average, 73 hits, 45 runs batted in and was tied for the team lead with five home runs. His selection to the All-BIG EAST Third Team was the first such honor in his career.
Seton Hall opens play in the BIG EAST Tournament when the No. 3 seed Pirates face second-seeded Rutgers on Thursday, May 17 at 7 p.m. at Commerce Bank Ballpark in Bridgewater, New Jersey. The winner of the four-team tournament receives an at-large bid to the NCAA Championship.
