
Baseball Downed By No. 4 North Carolina, 13-2

CHAPEL HILL, N.C.-- The Seton Hall baseball team fell to No. 4 North Carolina on Sunday afternoon, 13-2 at Boshamer Stadium. The Pirates were led by Dan Lopez (Weehawken, N.J.) who drove in both of the runs with a homerun and Dan McDonald (Rockaway, N.J.) who went 3-for-4. The Pirates were out-hit 15-5, yet North Carolina committed two errors while the Pirates had just one. Seton Hall left five runners on base while the Tar Heels left nine.
North Carolina scored one run in the bottom of the first inning. Reid Fronk scored the first run of the game on a passed ball. The Tar Heels added four runs in the third, when Drew Poulk homered to start the inning. Dustin Ackley followed the homerun with a double, and moved to third on a wild pitch, and Josh Horton walked to put runners at first and third. Ackley and Horton scored on a double by Chad Flack, who moved to third on a throwing error. Flack scored on a sacrifice fly by Tim Federowicz for the fourth run of the inning.
The Tar Heels added five more runs in the fourth inning. Benji Johnson drove in Seth Williams on a double. North Carolina then loaded the bases, and Ackley hit a single to score Johnson. Flack drove in Fronk and Poulk with a single. Kyle Seager drove in Flack for the final run of the inning.
Although McDonald tallied his first hit of the game in the top of the fifth, the Pirates were not able to get hime across the plate. However, the Tar Heels added to their lead, scoring one run in the bottom of the inning, when Horton drove in Fronk on a single.
In the seventh inning, the Tar Heels added two more runs for their final runs of the game. Ackley doubled to drive in Fronk, and Ryan Graepel doubled to score Ackley.
The Pirates added two runs of their own in the eighth, when Lopez blasted a homerun to drive in sophomore Tim McCann (Monasquan, N.J.), who had singled. The two runs would be all the Pirates could muster, as the game ended with North Carolina 13, Seton Hall 2.
North Carolina's L. Pukomen earned the win, while Seton Hall freshman Sean Black (Mt. Laurel, N.J.) was credited with the loss.
Seton Hall was swept by the Tar Heels for the fourth series in a row, having lost to the Tar Heels 11-0 on Friday and 3-2 on Saturday. The last time the Pirates defeated UNC was in 2002.
Seton Hall will next travel to Tampa, Fla.. The Pirates will play Kansas State on Friday, Feb. 23, at 1:00 p.m.
