
Baseball Comes Up Short Against Ohio State, 6-5

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. The Seton Hall baseball team jumped out to a quick, 3-0, lead in the first inning, but could not hold on as they were defeated by Ohio State, 6-5, Sunday afternoon in their final game of the 2008 Service Academies Spring Classic.
In the top of the first inning, A.J. Rusbarsky (Freehold, N.J.) singled and Mark Pappas (Ocean Township, N.J.) doubled. Rusbarsky scored on an RBI single by Greg Miller (Shamong, N.J.) and Pappas scored on a fielding error. Miller would score the third run of the inning to put the Pirates (1-2) ahead 3-0 on an RBI double by Tim McCann (Manasquan, N.J.).
With the Pirates leading, 3-1, in the top of the third inning, Dan Lopez (Weehawken, N.J.) smacked an RBI single to give Seton Hall their three-run lead back.
In the bottom of the third inning, Ohio State cut the lead to, 4-3. Ryan Drew reached on an error by Chris Affinito (East Brunswick, N.J.) and scored on an error by McCann. Justin Miller, who walked to reach base, scored on a fielding error by Pappas.
With the score tied at five in the bottom of the eighth, Justin Miller hit an RBI double to score Tony Kennedy to give Ohio State the, 6-5, lead.
For Seton Hall, Greg Miller led the way batting 2-for-4 with two runs scored and one RBI, while Justin Miller finished 2-for-4 with one run scored and two RBI for Ohio State.
Sean Black (Mt. Laurel, N.J.) (0-1) took the loss for the Pirates after tossing four innings in relief, allowing three runs on four hits while striking out four. Drew Rucinski (1-0) picked up the win after allowing one run on three hits in four innings of relief. Rory Meister (1) earned the save tossing a perfect ninth inning striking out one.
Pirates starter Keith Cantwell (Tinton Fall, N.J.) received a no decision allowing only one earned run in four innings, while striking out two batters.
The Pirates return to action Friday, February 29 when they take on Virginia Commonwealth in Richmond, Va. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
