Golf in Fifth Place following First Round of Rutgers Invitational

FULL FIRST ROUND RESULTS

PISCATAWAY, N.J. The Seton Hall golf team began the 2008 fall season on Friday with the first round of the Rutgers Invitational, at Rutgers University.  Currently, the Pirates are in fifth place among the 24 schools competing.  Seton Hall shot a 4-over-par, 288 and are seven strokes off the lead.

USC Upstate is leading the tournament following their 3-under-par, 281.

Junior David Sampson (Warren, R.I.) led the Pirates with a 1-under-par, 70, which ties him for seventh place individually.  Senior John Zur (Glenview, Ill.) shot an even-par, 71, tying him for 15^th place overall.

Freshman Troy Spencer (High Point, N.C.) made the most of his first collegiate round with a 2-over-par, 73, while junior Ryan Castanet (McDonald, Pa.) shot a 3-over-par, 74, and sophomore Colin Van Es (Granger, Ind.) rounded out the Pirates’ scoring with a 5-over-par, 76,

The tournament resumes tomorrow, with first tee set for 7:30 a.m.  The weather forecast calls for cloudy skies with a high of 80 degrees during the day.
