Golf Finishes Third of 14 Teams at The GEICO Intercollegiate

SAVANNAH, GA. The Seton Hall men’s golf team completed play at The GEICO Intercollegiate on Saturday, placing third of the 14 teams at the par-72 Hunter Golf Club in Savannah, Georgia.

After playing 36 holes on Friday, Seton Hall shot a 21-over-par, 309, on Saturday to finish with a 48-over-par, 307-296-309-912 for the tournament.  The Pirates finished eight strokes behind the team champion, Southern Illinois and one stroke behind second-place finisher Bryant University. 

After competing at the Ron Smith USF Invitational last week, which featured six other BIG EAST schools, Seton Hall found themselves as the lone conference representative in Savannah.

Senior John Zur (Glenview, Ill.) led the Pirates with an 11-over-par, 74-75-78-227, and tied for 10^th overall among all individual golfers.  Zur finished seven strokes behind the individual champion, Tom Hayes of SCAD.

Junior David Sampson (Warren, R.I.) tied for 16^th overall and placed second for the Pirates with a 13-over-par, 77-72-80-229. 

Junior Ryan Castanet (McDonald, Pa.), Seton Hall’s top finisher last weekend, and freshman Troy Spencer (High Point, N.C.) tied for 19^th place overall with 14-over-par scores.  Castanet shot a 75-78-77-230, while Spencer rebounded from a tough first round to fire an 81-74-75-230.

Sophomore Colin Van Es (Granger, Ind.) rounded out the team scoring for the Pirates with a 19-over-par, 81-75-79-235, to tie for 39^th overall. 

Junior JC Cardamone (Dunmore, Pa.) and sophomore Borja Faixat (Barcelona, Spain) are competing as individuals.  Cardamone tied for 51^st overall with a 22-over-par, 80-76-82-238, while Faixat saved the third round for his top performance of the tournament and finished with an 18-over-par, 79-78-77-234.  Faixat tied for 33^rd overall.

The Pirates will return to the course in two weeks when they play at the Towson University Invitational, March 28-29.
