Golf Finishes Ron Smith USF Invitational in 21st Place

DADE CITY, FL The Seton Hall men’s golf team finished the Ron Smith USF Invitational in 21^st place on Sunday.  Junior Ryan Castanet (McDonald, Pa.) was the top Pirate finisher and tied for 57^th place among individuals.

For the tournament, Seton Hall fired a 46-over par, 308-300-302-910, at the Lake Jovita Golf & Country Club.  Texas Tech won the team tournament with a 6-under-par, 858.  The Red Raiders defeated Florida Southern in a playoff by a total score of 16-19.  Texas Tech’s Santiago Rivas won the individual tournament with a 9-under-par, 69-70-68-207.

Castanet used a strong third round in which he shot a 3-under-par, 69, to finish at 6-over-par, 78-75-69-222. 

Senior John Zur (Glenview, Ill.) had a great tournament until he fired an 80 in the third round.  Zur still finished with a respectable 8-over-par, 73-71-80-224, and tied for 72^nd place overall.  Freshman Troy Spencer (High Point, N.C.) shot a 13-over-par, 78-76-76-229 to tie for 93^rd place.

Junior David Sampson (Warren, R.I.) fired a 19-over-par, 79-79-77-235, while Sophomore Colin Van Es (Granger, Ind.) shot a 38-over-par, 83-81-90-254.

The Pirates will return to action March 13-14 at the GEICO Intercollegiate in Savannah, Georgia.
