Golf in 15th Place Following Round One at Cavalier Classic

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA. - The Seton Hall men’s golf team is currently in 15^th place following round one of the Cavalier Classic at the par-72 Birdwood Golf Course.  Junior Ryan Castanet (McDonald, Pa.) is leading the Pirates with a 4-over-par, 76, on Saturday. 

As a team, Seton Hall shot a 22-over-par, 310, in round one and is 24 shots off the lead.  South Carolina leads the tournament following their 2-under-par, 286. 

The Pirates are the leader amongst BIG EAST schools in the field of 18.  Villanova is currently in 16^th place after shooting a 24-over-par, 312, while Rutgers is in 17^th following their 25-over-par, 313.

The top four Seton Hall scorers all finished within four strokes of each other.  Behind Castanet’s 76, senior John Zur (Glenview, Ill) shot a 5-over-par, 76, junior David Sampson (Warren, R.I.) fired a 6-over-par, 77, and sophomore Colin Van Es (Granger, Ind.) recorded a 7-over-par, 79.

Rounding out the Pirates’ five-some, freshman Troy Spencer (High Point, N.C.) checked in with a 10-over-par, 82.

The second round and final round of the 36-hole tournament is scheduled to begin at 8:00 a.m. on Sunday morning.
