
Baseball Falls Short At Rider, 8-7

LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. -Sean Gusrang (Burlington, N.J.) highlighted a five run third inning with a three-run home run and drove in a run in the top of the ninth inning with a sacrifice fly, however it would not be enough as the Seton Hall baseball team lost to Rider, 8-7, Tuesday afternoon at Sonny Pittaro Field.
With the game tied at one in the top of the third inning, Gusrang followed a lead-off double by Chris Spagnuolo (Tabernacle, N.J.) and a bunt single by A.J. Rusbarsky (Freehold, N.J.) with his second home run of the season. Ryan Sullivan (Stony Point, N.Y.) was hit-by-a-pitch and Giuseppe Papaccio (Nutley, N.J.) walked after Gusrang's blast, and both scored on a fielding error by first baseman Steve Galella for a, 6-1, Pirate advantage.
Rider (15-14) began their comeback with an RBI single by Mason Heyne in the bottom of the third, and they tied the game with four runs in the bottom of the fourth.
John Ralston led off the fourth with a triple and scored when Ian Lindsay reached on a Pirate fielding error. Galella hit a two-run single and Heyne added another run-scoring single to the tie the game at six.
Lindsay gave the Broncs their first lead of the game in the bottom of the fifth with a solo home run, his first of the year, and Ralston hit an RBI single in the bottom of the sixth for his team's eighth and final run.
Ryan Harvey (Manalapan, N.J.) (0-3) took the loss allowing four runs, two earned, on three hits in 2.2 innings of work. Chris LeRoy (2-0) earned the win tossing 5.1 scoreless innings in relief. For the Pirates, Jake Porcello (Chester, N.J.) and Mike Genovese (Livingston, N.J.) combined to throw 2.1 scoreless relief innings to keep the Pirates within two runs.
Gusrang led the Pirates offense with two hits and five RBI, including an RBI double in the top of the first that gave Seton Hall (13-16) the, 1-0, lead.
The Pirates return to Owen T. Carroll Field Wednesday afternoon when they welcome Wagner. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
