
Baseball Walks-Off With, 4-3, Victory Over Rider

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - Will Walsh (New Milford, N.J.) broke a, 3-3, tie when he scored from third base on a wild pitch in the bottom of the ninth inning as the Seton Hall baseball team defeated Rider, 4-3, Tuesday afternoon at Owen T. Carroll Field. The win extends the Pirates winning streak to three games, tying their season high, and improves their overall record to 11-10.
Walsh led off the ninth inning when he was hit-by-a-pitch on a 3-2 count. Freshman catcher Dillon Hamlin (Colts Neck, N.J.) moved him to second base on a sacrifice bunt down the third base line before Rider relief pitcher Tyler Smith followed with two wild pitches, first one allowing Walsh to take third, while the second one plated Walsh with the winning run.
Dale Anderson (Alberta, Canada) was front and center for the Pirates as he drove in two of the Pirates first three runs to help them grab an early, 3-0, lead. In the bottom of the first inning, the junior scored Zack Granite (Staten Island, N.Y.) from third base on a sacrifice fly to right field.
With the Pirates ahead, 1-0, Mike Genovese (Livingston, N.J.) kept the bottom of the third alive with a two-out single. Sean Gusrang (Burlington, N.J.) ripped an RBI triple to right-center field doubling the lead, and Anderson followed with a run-scoring infield single.
The Broncs (13-9) would tie the score at three in the bottom of the fifth. They began the inning with three straight singles including an RBI base hit by A.J. Albee. Steve Galella also belted a run-scoring single while Ian Lindsay brought home the tying run on a ground out to the right side of the infield.
The trio of George Fernandez (Union, N.J.), Rick Mangione (Orange, Conn.), and Genovese held Rider for the remainder of the game tossing three scoreless innings in relief. Genovese (1-1) picked up his first win of the year pitching a scoreless eighth inning.
Offensively, the Pirates were led by Genovese and Anderson who each picked up two hits. The sophomore from Livingston extended his hitting streak to 11 straight games. Granite finished the game 1-for-4 extending his streak to five straight games.
Henry Warner (Gladstone, N.J.) received a no-decision in his first start of the season tossing four scoreless innings allowing only four hits and striking out two.
Smith (1-2) took the loss for Rider.
The Pirates return to action tomorrow when they welcome Princeton to Owen T. Carroll Field. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
