A.J. Rusbarsky (Freehold, N.J.) put Seton Hall ahead, 5-0, two innings later with an RBI single and later scored along with Papaccio on a fielding error by FDU second baseman Mike Eliasen.
The scored remained, 7-0, until the bottom of the sixth when the Pirates added five more runs to their total. The scoring started when Knights' pitcher Jeff Murawski was called for a balk with runners on first and third. The Pirates pitching staff of Greg Terhune (Washington, N.J.), Rick Mangione (Orange, Conn.), Ed Ras (Millstone Township, N.J.), and Genovese shut down the FDU offense combining to allow only five hits and one walk while striking out nine. Terhune (2-3) picked up the win with a five inning start striking out five.
