CINCINNATI, OHIO - The Seton Hall baseball team's bats came alive in game two of the doubleheader as they scored 10 runs on 12 hits to defeat Cincinnati, 10-1, Saturday afternoon at Marge Schott Stadium.
A.J. Rusbarsky (Freehold, N.J.) finished with three hits, two RBI, and two runs scored, while fellow senior Sean Gusrang (Burlington, N.J.) also picked up three hits, two RBI, and a run scored. Zack Granite (Staten Island, N.Y.) and Mike Betz (Mine-Hill, N.J.) contributed with two hits, two runs scored, and two RBI each to round out the Pirates afternoon.
The four gave Jon Prosinski (Skillman, N.J.) all he would need to earn his fifth win of the season as he yielded only one run on seven hits in eight innings of work while striking out six.
Seton Hall's (25-22, 11-12) offense got started early when they plated two runs in the first inning.
Similar to game one, Granite began the game by reaching base, this time with a lead-off walk. Mike Genovese (Livingston, N.J.) moved the freshman to third base with a single, and Gusrang plated him with a single. The senior from Burlington scored the team's second run when Dale Anderson (Alberta, Canada) grounded out to the left side of the infield.
With the team clinging to the two-run lead, Prosinski struck out three batters and allowed only three baserunners through the first four innings before the Pirates could build on their lead.
An RBI groundout by Genovese and a run-scoring single by Gusrang in the fifth doubled the Hall's lead before they broke the game wide open in the sixth.
Scott Kalamar (Bethlehem, Pa.) reached base with a one out walk and Frank Esposito (Staten Island, N.Y.) singled. Both runners advanced ninety feet on a wild pitch by Bearcats' relief pitcher Cory Hough before Betz plated both with a single over the heads of a drawn Bearcat infield. Two batters later, Granite ripped an RBI double off the center field wall for a, 7-0, advantage.
The Pirate offense was not done as they added another three runs in the eighth inning. After Kalamar reached base by being hit-by-a-pitch, Betz singled and Rusbarsky belted a two-run triple to center field. Granite then followed by scoring Rusbarsky on the Hall's third RBI groundout of the game.
Dan Jensen (3-4) suffered the loss after allowing four runs on six hits in five innings of work.
First pitch for Sunday's series finale is scheduled for 11:00 a.m.
