SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - Seton Hall baseball's right-handed pitcher Jon Prosinski (Skillman, N.J.) was named the BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week for the week-ending May 8, 2011.
Prosinski tossed a complete-game shutout in a, 1-0, win over the Louisville Cardinals Friday afternoon at Owen T. Carroll Field. The sophomore yielded only two hits and two walks while striking out five to improve his record to 4-4. No batter reached third base in the game, and Prosinski only allowed two runners to reach base in an inning once.
In the visiting half of the third inning, Cade Stallings hit a one-out single and Adam Engel drew a two-out walk, but Cody Ege grounded out to the right side of the infield to end the threat. The Cardinals also looked to start a rally in the top of the sixth when Engel hit the only other single allowed by Prosinski, but it was quickly erased when Ege grounded into an inning-ending 6-4-3 double play.
With the teams locked in a scoreless tie in the bottom of the ninth, Dale Anderson (Alberta, Canada) reached on a two-out double and came around to score on a game-winning single by Frank Esposito (Staten Island, N.Y.). The win proved to be Prosinski's second career against Louisville making him the first Pirate pitcher to record multiple wins against their BIG EAST rival.
The award is Prosinski's first of the year, but his second honor by the conference as he was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for the week-ending April 17. He becomes just the second Pirates' pitcher this season to earn a Pitcher of the Week award, yet it's the fourth given to the Pirates' rotation in 2011.
