CLEARWATER, FLA. - Seton Hall's Jon Prosinski (Skillman, N.J.) was named to the All-BIG EAST First Team on Tuesday at the opening ceremonies of the 2012 BIG EAST Baseball Championship. Four other Pirates received All-Conference honors.
Junior Ryan Harvey (Manalapan, N.J.) was named to the All-BIG EAST Second Team, while Zack Granite (Staten Island, N.Y.), Benny Mejia (Paterson, N.J.) and Giuseppe Papaccio (Nutley, N.J.) were named to the All-BIG EAST Third Team.
Prosinski becomes the second straight Seton Hall pitcher to land on the First Team. Graduate Joe DiRocco was named to the First Team last season.
An All-NJCBA selection, Prosinski has been named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll four times this season and earned NJCBA Pitcher of the Week honors on April 16. The right-hander is tied for second in the BIG EAST in wins and eighth in strikeouts. On March 16 and March 23, Prosinski pitched back-to-back complete-game shutouts against Fordham and Rutgers respectively. His eight wins and 88.2 innings pitched lead the Pirates.
Harvey has a record of 6-3 and leads all Seton Hall starters with a 2.86 ERA. He has been named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll three times this season and earned NJCBA Pitcher of the Week honors on May 7. Harvey's 87 strikeouts rank fourth in the BIG EAST despite having four fewer starts than most of the league's starting pitchers.
Granite earns All-BIG EAST honors despite missing 17 games due to an injured hamstring this season. Despite the injury, his .302 batting average leads the Pirates and his 18 stolen bases are tied for sixth-best in the BIG EAST. Granite is second on the team in runs scored and third in hits.
Mejia, a fifth-year senior, is having the best season of his career and has emerged as the Pirates' closer this season. His nine saves are second-most in the BIG EAST and his 28 appearances rank fourth in the conference. A dominant finisher, Mejia sported a 2.62 ERA this season and struck out 37 batters compared to just nine walks in 44.2 innings.
Papaccio has started 53 games for the Pirates and leads the team in hits. One of the best defensive short stops in the BIG EAST, he is batting .280 on the season and is tied for second on the team with three home runs and 32 RBIs.
