SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - Seton Hall junior Ryan Harvey (Manalapan, N.J.) was named New Jersey Collegiate Baseball Association (NJCBA) Pitcher of the Week, while freshman Sal Annunziata (Bronx, N.Y.) earned NJCBA Rookie of the Week honors on Monday.
Harvey won a pitchers' duel on Saturday, helping the Pirates to a 2-1 victory at Georgetown. The fireballer pitched the first complete game of his career and scattered just two hits, neither of which came after the fourth inning. Harvey walked four and matched his season-high with nine strikeouts. Harvey's lone blemish was a solo home run given up in the third inning. With the victory, he improves to 5-3 on the season and has a team-best 2.76 ERA and 72 strikeouts in only 58.2 innings pitched.
Annunziata batted .400 for the week, but he hit .500 (6-for-12), including two home runs, in three starts at Georgetown. On Friday, the big DH went 2-for-4 with a walk, an RBI and a run scored. On Saturday, his solo home run tied the game at one, a game the Pirates would eventually win, 2-1. Sunday, he crushed a solo home run in the eighth inning to pull the Pirates to within one run, 5-4. Seton Hall trailed 5-1 to begin the eighth. In all, Annunziata went 3-for-4 with a home run on Sunday.
The Pirates will return to the diamond on Friday, May 11, when they host Pittsburgh in the first of a three-game set with the Panthers, the final series of the season at Owen T. Carroll Field. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
