Ryan Harvey Drafted by the Texas Rangers

SECAUCAS, N.J. - Seton Hall junior Ryan Harvey (Manalapan, N.J.) was selected in the 18th round of the 2012 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft by the Texas Rangers on Wednesday. Harvey was the 576th selection overall.
The dominant right-handed strikeout artist excelled at Seton Hall for three seasons in several roles. In 2011, Harvey was the team's closer and saved seven games, the third-highest single-season total in Seton Hall history. On May 5 vs. Louisville, he pitched five innings of shutout, one-hit relief, while striking out 10 batters, as Seton Hall defeated the Cardinals, 1-0, in 18 innings. An All-NJCBA selection, he pitched to a 2.62 ERA and struck out 73 batters in just 44.2 innings, while helping Seton Hall capture its first BIG EAST Championship since 2001.
A two-time BIG EAST Academic All-Star, Harvey moved to the rotation for 2012. Serving as the Pirates' regular "Saturday" starter, he finished with a team-leading 3.04 ERA. A Second Team All-BIG EAST and All-NJCBA selection, he was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll three times this season and earned NJCBA Pitcher of the Week honors on May 7. Harvey's 90 strikeouts tied for fourth-most in the BIG EAST despite having four fewer starts than most of the league's starting pitchers. He also ranked among the conference's top-10 in ERA, opposing batting average, fewest hits allowed and fewest runs allowed.
Excelling again on "Cinco de Mayo," Harvey pitched the first complete game of his career, giving up just one run on two hits, while striking out nine at Georgetown.
