Genovese, Beaubien Named All-Stars

DC Grays sluggers Mike Genovese and John Beaubien, both of Seton Hall University, were named to the 2012 all-star team for the Cal Ripken Collegiate Baseball League.
Genovese, a rising senior from Livingston, NJ, played primarily second and third base for the Grays in their inaugural 2012 season in the Ripken League. He played reliable defense in the infield, and hit .313 in 128 at-bats with 2 homers and 17 RBIs. He also pitched for the Grays on occasion, winning three games.
Beaubien, a rising sophomore also from Livingston, was one of the Ripken League's top run-producers. He led the Grays with a .366 batting average and eight home runs. He also drove in 21 runs, primarily batting clean-up and playing left field for the Grays.
"Mike and John had great seasons for the Grays," said Michael Barbera, president of DC Grays Baseball. "They were the heart of our batting order and they came through for us time and time again. They are terrific ballplayers, and also fine young men." The Grays finished their inaugural season with an 18-21 record and narrowly missed the playoffs. The Grays play their home games at Hoy Field on the campus of Gallaudet University and are named for the famed Negro League champion Homestead Grays.
Founded in 2005, the Cal Ripken Collegiate Baseball League (www.calripkenleague.org) is a wooden bat summer program made up of amateur players from a wide variety of colleges and universities from throughout the United States. The league is regionally located in the Baltimore/Washington, DC metropolitan area. Teams in the league are the, Alexandria Aces, Baltimore Redbirds, Bethesda Big Train, D.C. Grays, Herndon Braves, Rockville Express, Silver Spring-Takoma Thunderbolts, Southern Maryland Nationals, Vienna River Dogs and Youse's Maryland Orioles.
