MALIBU, CALIF. - Junior Josh Prevost (Belle Mead, N.J.) gave up just one run over six and one third of an inning to lift the Seton Hall baseball team to a 3-1 victory over Pepperdine on Saturday.
Prevost scattered five hits while striking out seven and not walking a single batter.
Seton Hall (2-9) struck first in the top of the second inning. Ryan Sullivan (Stony Point, N.Y.) singled to lead off the inning, and moved to second on a ground out by Sal Annunziata (Bronx, N.Y.). He was moved to third on a single by Zack Weigel (Oak Park, Ill.), and scored on a wild pitch with the Pirates' first run.
Scott Kalamar (Bethlehem, Pa.) and Giuseppe Papaccio (Nutley, N.J.) registered back-to-back singles to start the sixth inning. With one out, Weigel delivered a sacrifice fly to score Kalamar to give Seton Hall a 2-0 advantage.
The Pirates extended their lead to 3-0 in the top of the seventh on an RBI double by Kalamar scoring Alex Falconi (Freeport, N.Y.).
Pepperdine ended the shutout with a run in the bottom of the seventh, but the Pirates' bullpen shut the door on the Waves the rest of the way. Greg Terhune (Washington, N.J.) pitched two thirds of an inning of scoreless baseball and Brian Gilbert (Toms River, N.J.) earned the save by keeping Pepperdine off the board over the final two innings.
Kalamar was the offensive star for Seton Hall on Saturday, going 2-for-3 with a walk, an RBI and a run scored.
Seton Hall will return to action tomorrow for the final game of the three game set with Pepperdine. First pitch is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. ET.
