Zack Granite Named to Honor Roll

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Junior Zack Granite (Staten Island, N.Y.) was named to the BIG EAST's Baseball Weekly Honor Roll on Monday.
Granite was named Most Valuable Player of the 2013 Strike Out Cancer Tournament last weekend. The speedy leadoff hitter batted a tournament-best .556, while going 8-for-8 in steal attempts. He helped the Pirates win three out of four games in the tournament and improve to 6-10 on the young season. Granite was 4-for-5 vs. UMass on Friday, and an amazing 4-for-4 with five steals vs. the Minutemen on Sunday. He also hit two triples this weekend and led all competitors with 14 total bases and 10 hits.
St. John's Frank Schwindel was named BIG EAST Player of the Week, while Villanova's Pat Young was named Pitcher of the Week. Those joining Granite on the Honor Roll include: Louisville's Jeff Thompson, USF's Alex Mendez and both Eric Jagielo and Adam Norton of Notre Dame.
Granite and the rest of the Pirates will return to action on Wednesday, March 20 when they host Saint Peter's in a mid-week matchup at Owen T. Carroll Field. First pitch is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
