SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Senior Giuseppe Papaccio (Nutley, N.J.) drove in a career-high five RBIs and the Seton Hall baseball team reached the 10-hit plateau for the 10th time in 12 games in an 11-4 victory over Georgetown on Saturday. Papaccio went 3-for-4 with two doubles and five RBIs. He now leads the Pirates with a .354 batting average and his 17 doubles are the most in the BIG EAST Conference. Seton Hall (21-15, 7-4) starter Jose Lopez (Cranbury, N.J.) earned his first win of the season with seven innings of two-run baseball. He scattered just four hits, walked one and struck out four batters. The victory clinches a series win vs. Georgetown, the fourth-straight weekend series victory for the Pirates. After an 0-9 start, Seton Hall has won 21 of its last 27 games. The Pirates got on the board first in the bottom of the first inning with a typical Granite-generated run. Zack Granite (Staten Island, N.Y.) legged out a double to lead off, stole third and scored on a sacrifice fly by Papaccio. After Georgetown tied the game in the top of the second on a solo home run, Seton Hall’s offense exploded for three runs in the bottom of the inning. Sal Annunziata (Bronx, N.Y.) walked to lead off and Kyle Grimm (Bergenfield, N.J.) followed with a double down the left field line. With runners on second and third, Dillon Hamlin (Colts Neck, N.J.) doubled deep into the left field corner to give Seton Hall a 3-1 lead. With one out, Granite flew out to left field, but it was deep enough to score Hamlin with the Pirates’ fourth run. Georgetown (21-15, 4-7) got one back in the top of the fourth, but the Pirates broke the game open in the bottom of the inning. With the bases loaded and no outs, Scott Kalamar (Bethlehem, Pa.) singled through the right side to score two runs. Papaccio followed with a double to left field to score two more and extend the Seton Hall lead to 8-2. Georgetown wouldn’t get closer than six runs the rest of the way. Kalamar had a strong game offensively for Seton Hall. The senior right fielder reached base four times, going 2-for-3 with three RBIs, two runs scored, a walk and a sacrifice fly. Grimm and Hamlin also had two hits apiece for the Pirates. Seton Hall will complete its three-game series with Georgetown on Sunday at Owen T. Carroll Field. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. The Pirates will be seeking their second weekend sweep of the season (Pepperdine).
