Prosinski Named Pitcher of the Week

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Senior Jon Prosinski (Skillman, N.J.) was named BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week on Monday. Senior Mike Genovese (Livingston, N.J.) was named to the conference’s Weekly Honor Roll. In a season of spectacular performances, Prosinski may have turned in his career-best at Villanova on Friday. The ace right-hander pitched a complete-game shutout in Seton Hall’s 7-0 victory over the Wildcats. While scattering just six hits, Prosinski struck out a career-high 13 batters, and walked just one. The complete game is his fourth of the season and the third in his last four starts. The victory improves Prosinski to 7-2 on the season and lowers his team-leading ERA to 2.23. Seton Hall has now won in each of Prosinski’s last eight starts, including all five BIG EAST starts. Genovese was instrumental in guiding Seton Hall to a perfect 5-0 record last week. The Pirates’ captain and starting second baseman batted .500 for the week, including nine hits and eight runs scored. He also had a team-leading .625 on-base percentage. On Wednesday vs. Lehigh, Genovese reached base four times, going 2-for-3 with two runs scored, two walks, an RBI and a stolen base. In Friday's opener at Villanova, he went 4-for-5 with a run scored and two RBIs. Genovese reached base three more times on Saturday and scored three runs. Currently, he’s reached base in a team-best 19 straight games. Genovese’s honor marks the seventh time a Pirate has earned honor roll distinction this season. Prosinski has earned the recognition three times, while Zack Granite (Staten Island, N.Y.), Josh Prevost (Belle Mead, N.J.) and Giuseppe Papaccio (Nutley, N.J.) have received it once. Notre Dame’s Trey Mancini was named BIG EAST Player of the Week. Those joining Genovese on the Honor Roll include: Louisville’s Chad Green, Notre Dame’s Dan Slania, Pittsburgh’s Boo Vazquez and USF’s Lawrence Pardo. The Pirates will return to action on Tuesday, April 30 when they travel to Jersey City, N.J. for a mid-week matchup at Saint Peter’s. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
