PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Senior Jon Prosinski (Skillman, N.J.) threw a complete game and the Seton Hall baseball offense exploded for 15 runs and a season-high 20 hits as the Pirates defeated Rutgers, 15-1, on Friday in Piscataway. Prosinski went the distance while giving up just one earned run and six hits, and striking out seven. The masterpiece comes in his 50th career start, the most in Seton Hall history. In the win, he also surpassed the Pirates’ all-time innings pitched record. Seton Hall (14-13, 4-3) got on the board first with a run in the top of the second inning. With one out, Mike Genovese (Livingston, N.J.) and Sal Annunziata (Bronx, N.Y.) hit back-to-back singles. Genovese attempted to steal third, while Rutgers’ pitcher Rob Smorol attempted a pick off at first. Genovese stole third and the throw got past the third baseman, which allowed Genovese to score. The Pirates offense then broke out for at least two runs in five of the next six innings. In the top of the fourth, Seton Hall got a little breathing room. With runners on first and second, John Beaubien (Livingston, N.J.) doubled down the right field line to score the Pirates’ second run. Dillon Hamlin (Colts Neck, N.J.) followed with a fielder’s choice that scored Annunziata to give Seton Hall a 3-0 advantage. In the fifth inning, the Pirates got two more runs on RBI singles by Giuseppe Papaccio (Nutley, N.J.) and Beaubien, his second of the game. Scott Kalamar (Bethlehem, Pa.) singled home Zack Granite (Staten Island, N.Y.) in the sixth inning with the Pirates’ sixth run. Papaccio followed with a run scoring fielder’s choice to extend the Pirates’ lead to 7-1. If the game was still in question, it wasn’t after a six-run seventh inning for Seton Hall. Four Pirates finished the game with three hits, Granite, Papaccio, Annunziata and Beaubien. Granite reached base four times, finishing 3-for-5 with a walk, three runs scored and two RBIs. Papaccio and Genovese also each had two runs scored and two RBIs. Seton Hall will return to action tomorrow when it continues its three-game series at Rutgers. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
