PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Senior Giuseppe Papaccio (Nutley, N.J.) was named BIG EAST Baseball Player of the Week on Monday. Teammate Greg Terhune (Washington, N.J.) was added to the conference’s Weekly Honor Roll. Papaccio was instrumental in leading the Pirates to a perfect 4-0 week, including a series sweep at Cincinnati last weekend. For the four-game stretch, the Pirates’ shortstop batted a team-best .556 with 13 RBIs. In Tuesday's game at Saint Peter's, Papaccio led Seton Hall with three hits, finishing 3-for-5 with a run scored, a stolen base and two RBIs. In the three-game series at Cincinnati, Papaccio would add an additional 11 RBIs. On Friday, he went 1-for-4 with a bases-clearing double and four RBIs. On Saturday, Papaccio went 2-for-5, but both of his hits were two-run home runs, which allowed the Pirates to jump out to a 4-0 lead. Papaccio finished the afternoon with four RBIs and three runs scored. On Sunday, Papaccio ended a spectacular week going 4-for-4 with his BIG EAST-leading 21st double of the season, two runs scored and three more RBIs. His batting average is now up to .374 this season. Terhune lands on the Weekly Honor Roll for the first time of his career. The 6-foot-5 left-hander made arguably his best-career start at Cincinnati on Saturday. The usual Sunday starter, Terhune had to move up a day due to an injury in the Pirates' rotation. He responded with his first career complete game, giving up just one earned run, a solo home run, while striking out a career-high 10 batters and walking just one. Terhune is now 4-3 on the season with a 2.84 ERA. Papaccio is the second Pirate to earn BIG EAST Player of the Week honors this season. Zack Granite (Staten Island, N.Y.) earned the distinction on April 15. Terhune becomes the ninth Pirate to land on the Weekly Honor Roll. Senior Jon Prosinski (Skillman, N.J.) has received the recognition four times this year. USF’s Nick Gonzalez was named Pitcher of the Week. Those joining Terhune on the Honor Roll include: Louisville’s Dace Kime, Notre Dame’s Trey Mancini, and both Stephen Vranka and Matt Wotherspoon of Pittsburgh. The Pirates will return to action on Friday, May 10 when they host USF for the first of three games this weekend at Owen T. Carroll Field. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
