GENEVA, ILL. – Former Seton Hall baseball player Giuseppe Papaccio (Nutley, N.J.) was promoted to the Chicago Cubs’ Class A Affiliate, the Kane County Cougars. The former Pirates star was drafted in the 18th round of the 2013 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft on June 8 and was originally assigned to the franchise’s Rookie League affiliate, the Arizona League Cubs. Papaccio however, proved more than worthy and earned a quick promotion to the next level of professional baseball. In nine games in Mesa, Arizona, he batted .313 with six RBIs and two stolen bases. Papaccio became the first member of the Cubs 2013 draft class to join Kane County, and the Cougars wasted little time getting him on the field. Papaccio has already played in two games, starting at both third base and second base, and is batting .333. In his first game on the Class A level, Papaccio started at third base and batted seventh in the order. He went 2-for-4 with a double and a game-tying RBI single in the eighth inning. Named a Third Team All-American by the American Baseball Coaches Association and Collegiate Baseball, Papaccio is coming off one of the finest offensive seasons in Seton Hall history. Unanimously named a First Team All-BIG EAST selection and New Jersey Collegiate Baseball Association’s (NJCBA) Player of the Year, he finished ranked third in the BIG EAST with a .365 batting average and led the conference in doubles. Further showing his prowess for the two-base hit, Papaccio set Seton Hall’s career record with 56 doubles and tied David Kim’s single-season Pirate record with 24.
