STATE COLLEGE, PA. - The Seton Hall men's golf team will return to action, April 19-20, for three rounds of the Rutherford Intercollegiate, hosted by Penn State University.
Fourteen teams will compete on Penn State's Blue Course, a par-71 course measuring 7,202 yards. In addition to Penn State and Seton Hall, participating schools include Minnesota, Xavier, Bowling Green State, Eastern Michigan, Rutgers, Seton Hall, University of Connecticut, Army, Maryland, Binghamton, Youngstown State, La Salle and Wright State.
Last year, Seton Hall placed 13th at the Rutherford Intercollegiate. The Pirates shot an 82-over-par, 309-313-312-934 for the three-round event. Binghamton won the team title at 38-over-par. Cory Wilson (Newton, N.J.) was the top Pirate finisher with a 12-over-par, 76-75-74-225.
Seton Hall is coming off a stellar fifth place finish among 15 teams in a competitive field at the Princeton Invitational last weekend. Freshman Lloyd Jefferson Go (Guadalupe Cebu City, Philippines) led team's superb third round with a 3-under-par, 68. He finished tied for sixth place among 78 individual golfers with a 3-under-par, 72-70-68-210 for the three-round tournament.
Go's performance this weekend is the third time this year he has completed a tournament under par, which ties him for the fourth-most in Seton Hall history despite not having yet finished his freshman year. Only Eugene Smith (nine), Kyle Morris (six) and Mike Costigan (four) have recorded more career sub-par tournaments and two of which, Smith and Costigan, are Seton Hall Athletics Hall of Famers.
Collectively, Seton Hall had the second-best third round in the 15-team field. The Pirates' fired an even-par, 284, to climb from a ninth place tie after two rounds into fifth place finish. Seton Hall completed the three-round event with a 15-over-par, 288-295-284-867, 35 strokes behind the team champion, Harvard. Their 15-over-par is their best tournament score vs. par since shooting 7-over-par at the Towson Invitational in 2012. Furthermore, Seton Hall's three-round score of 867 is the third-lowest par-71, three-round score in program history.
Tee times for the Rutherford Intercollegiate will begin at 7:30 a.m. Saturday and 8:00 a.m. Sunday, pending weather conditions.
