OKATIE, S.C. - The Seton Hall men's golf team will complete the 2013-14 competition year with three rounds of the 2014 BIG EAST Championship at Callawassie Island Golf Club in South Carolina, April 27-29.
The club features three nine-hole courses. Most of the competition will play out on the Dogwood Course on Sunday and Monday. For Tuesday's final round, the first 10 threesomes will tee off on Dogwood and the final five will play the Magnolia Course. Five student-athletes will play for each of the nine teams, with the top four scores counting towards the team cumulative.
The BIG EAST Champions in both the team and individual competitions will earn automatic berths to the NCAA Championships.
Seton Hall will bring Lloyd Jefferson Go (Guadalupe Cebu City, Philippines), Cory Wilson (Newton, N.J.), JT Harper (Pebble Beach, Calif.), Gary Dunne (Wicklow, Ireland) and Derrick Kim (New City, N.Y.) to Callawassie Island.
The Pirates will play with Georgetown and Xavier for round one. Kim will be the first to tee off at 8:50 a.m. on Sunday.
Seton Hall is coming off an impressive showing at the Rutherford Intercollegiate at Penn State. Lloyd Jefferson Go led a ferocious charge up the leader board as the Pirates made up 15 strokes and eight positions in the standings over the final 18 holes to place second.
Seton Hall was in 10th place after two rounds, but fired an even-par, 284, in round three to pass eight teams. The Pirates' 284 was the best third round score of any in the 14-team field, including team champion Minnesota. The Golden Gophers finished 12 strokes ahead of the Pirates.
For the three-round event, the Pirates fired a 20-over-par, 295-293-284-872, out-shooting all but one team in a talented field including Maryland, Penn State and former BIG EAST members Connecticut and Rutgers.
