SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - This week, Josh Prevost (Belle Mead, N.J.) added two more accolades to his spectacular senior season. The Seton Hall ace was named to the All-America Third Team by College Sports Madness and became a semifinalist for the prestigious Golden Spikes Award.
Prevost is one of just three pitchers on the All-America Third Team, joining Clemson's Daniel Gossett and LSU's Aaron Nola. Four teams were named in all, and he was one of only two BIG EAST Players among those honored. Creighton's Reagan Fowler was named to the Fourth Team.
USA Baseball announced the semifinalists for the 2014 Golden Spikes Award on Tuesday. Twenty-one athletes from around the country were named semifinalists for the 37th Golden Spikes Award, presented to the top amateur baseball player in the U.S.
GoldenSpikesAward.com -- powered by MLB Advanced Media -- will once again be the online home for the award. The website features content devoted exclusively to the GSA, including news, voting history, past winner photo galleries, and photographs and biographical information for the 2014 semifinalists. Fans can follow online at GoldenSpikesAward.com as the list of 21 players is narrowed to a group of finalists on Tuesday, June 3.
The Pirates' regular Friday starter, Prevost recently completed one of the greatest single-season pitching performances in the history of the Seton Hall baseball program. Named Seton Hall's first BIG EAST Pitcher of the Year since 1992, he was named conference Pitcher of the Week six times and to the Weekly Honor Roll and additional three times. Named Seton Hall's Senior Student-Athlete of the Year, he has also been named to the watch list for the College Baseball Hall of Fame's National Pitcher of the Year Award. A unanimous First Team All-Conference selection, Prevost finished the 2014 season as the BIG EAST leader in wins, ERA, strikeouts, opponent batting average, innings pitched, complete games and shutouts. His final career start was one for the ages. In the first round of the BIG EAST Championship, Prevost tossed a four-hit, complete-game shutout as Seton Hall held on for a 1-0 victory over St. John's. His seven strikeouts in the game gave him 111 for the season, third-most in Seton Hall history. Prevost's 12th victory ties him with former Pirates Phil Cundari and Rich Vichroski for most all-time. His 116.1 innings pitched is the second-most ever for a Pirate, trailing only Joe DiRocco's 118.2, but Prevost had two fewer starts.
