
Baseball Falls at Creighton, 4-3, in 10

OMAHA, NEB. - The Seton Hall baseball team rallied to tie the game in the sixth inning, but lost on a walk-off single in the bottom of the 11th to Creighton, 4-3, on Saturday.The loss snaps a five-game win streak and drops the Pirates to 33-10 overall and 7-4 in the BIG EAST.
Seton Hall got on the scoreboard first with a run in the top of the second inning. With one out, Tyler Boyd (Succasunna, N.J.) doubled down the left field line. With two outs, Chris Selden (Allenhurst, N.J.) drove him home with an RBI single through the right side.
In the bottom of the fourth, Creighton tied up the game with an RBI single by Nicky Lopez.
The Bluejays added two more runs to chase Seton Hall starter Anthony Elia (Flanders, N.J.) and take a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the fifth. The first two batters reached via a single and a double and then both were plated via an RBI ground out and a sacrifice fly.
Creighton's lead didn't last long however. Derek Jenkins (Annandale, N.J.) singled up the middle to lead off the top of the sixth inning. Zack Weigel (Oak Park, Ill.) sacrifice bunted Jenkins to second. D.J. Ruhlman (Belle Mead, N.J.) followed with a double down the left field line to score Jenkins, cutting the Bluejay lead to 3-2. With two outs, Kyle Grimm (Bergenfield, N.J.) singled home Ruhlman to tie the game at three.
The Pirates were poised to break the tie in the top of the eighth inning with back-to-back singles to lead off, but the next two batters flew out and Ruhlman was picked off second base.
Creighton got the winning run to third base in the bottom of the ninth with two outs, but Zack Prendergast (Horsham, Pa.) struck out Landon Lucansky to end the threat.
In the bottom of the 10th, Prendergast walked back-to-back batters to lead off the inning. Conor Krauss (Randolph, N.J.) entered the game and allowed a sacrifice bunt which advanced both runners. With one out, Creighton's Brad McKewon singled home the winning run.
Prendergast took the loss. He falls to 0-2.
One of the pitching highlights for Seton Hall on Saturday was the performance of Joe DiBenedetto (Staten Island, N.Y.). The freshman pitched 3.1 scoreless innings while scattering just two hits.
Jenkins and Ruhlman had two hits apiece to lead the offense.
Seton Hall will return to action tomorrow when it concludes its three-game series at Creighton. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. ET.
