MT. PLEASANT, MICH. - Five members of the 2014 Seton Hall baseball team were named to the ABCA/Rawlings All-East Region Team on Thursday. Josh Prevost (Belle Mead, N.J.) and D.J. Ruhlman (Belle Mead, N.J.) were named to the First Team, while Sal Annunziata (Bronx, N.Y.), Luke Cahill (Tinton Falls, N.J.) and Derek Jenkins (Annandale, N.J.) were named to the Second Team.
All First Team players are automatically nominated for ABCA All-America. The meeting to select those prestigious teams will be in Omaha, Neb., June 13-14.
Named to two national All-America Teams and a Golden Spikes Award semifinalist, Prevost recently completed one of the greatest single-season pitching performances in the history of the Seton Hall baseball program. Named Seton Hall's first BIG EAST Pitcher of the Year since 1992, he was named conference Pitcher of the Week six times and to the Weekly Honor Roll and additional three times. Named Seton Hall's Senior Student-Athlete of the Year, he has also been named to the watch list for the College Baseball Hall of Fame's National Pitcher of the Year Award. Additionally, Prevost has been named ECAC Pitcher of the Year, NJCBA Pitcher of the Year and a unanimous selection to the All-BIG EAST Team and ABCA All-East Region Team. On June 6, Prevost was drafted in the fifth round of the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft by the New York Mets.
Named BIG EAST Co-Player of the Year, Ruhlman was a force in the middle of the Pirates' batting order all season long. A candidate for the Brooks Wallace National Shortstop of the Year Award and semifinalist for the Gregg Olson Breakout Player of the Year Award, he led the BIG EAST in batting average for most of the season, before dropping to second with a .351 batting average over the last couple of weeks. Ruhlman was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll three times and finished among the conference's top-five in batting average, slugging percentage, runs scored, hits and stolen bases. A First Team All-BIG EAST Conference and All-ECAC East Region pick, he was named NJCBA Player of the Year. Defensively, Ruhlman took over as the everyday shortstop at the start of the season and committed the fewest errors at that position of any regular in the BIG EAST.
Annunziata was named to the All-BIG EAST Second Team in 2014, despite a deep crop of talented first basemen in the conference. Named BIG EAST Player of the Week on Feb. 24, he batted a career-high .330 and led the conference in RBIs, slugging percentage and total bases. He also ranked among the BIG EAST top-five in hits and doubles. Named to the NJCBA First Team, Annunziata led the Pirates with five home runs in 2014.
Cahill had one of the top win percentages in the BIG EAST, finishing with a 10-2 record in his first season as a collegiate starter. The right-hander had a dominant season ranking among the conference's top-five in ERA, batters struck out looking and fewest walks. An All-BIG EAST Second Team selection and All-NJCBA First Team pick, he was named BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week on May 12.
Jenkins was a terror on the base paths for Seton Hall batting at the top of the lineup. Named to the All-BIG EAST and All-NJCBA First Team, he was twice named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll. Jenkins batted a strong .324 and stole 37 bases, the nation's second-highest total.
