GOODYEAR, ARIZ. - Senior JT Harper (Pebble Beach, Calif.) and junior Ryan Snouffer (Sparta, N.J.) both fired a 1-over-par, 73, to lead the Seton Hall men's golf team to a 10th place tie following the first round of the Neville Kovacs Group Intercollegiate on Sunday.
Collectively, the Pirates shot a 14-over-par, 302, and are tied for 10th place with Air Force and Bradley University among a field of 17 programs. Utah Valley is currently leading the field at 8-under-par and has a five-stroke lead.
Harper and Snouffer are currently tied for 21st place among 100 individual golfers to lead Seton Hall. Missouri's Luigi Botta and Utah Valley's J.T. Simmons currently share the individual lead following a first round 5-under-par, 67.
Hosted by Loyola University (Md.) at the Palm Valley Golf Course in Goodyear, Ariz. the tournament features 18 holes per day, Sunday through Tuesday, on the Club's Palm Course, measuring a par-72 at 7,015 yards.
Lloyd Jefferson Go (Guadalupe Cebu City, Philippines) was the Pirates' third-best performer on Sunday following a 3-over-par, 75. He is tied for 42nd place overall. Go was 2-under par through the first 11 holes, but suffered a double-bogey on hole 12 and then bogeyed holes 13, 16 and 18 to finish at 3-over-par.
David Cha (Carrollton, Texas) shot a 9-over-par, 81, in Sunday's first round. The junior had a rough start, shooting 7-over-par on the front nine, but played significantly better on the second nine.
Sophomore Kevin O'Brien (Wexford, Pa.) rounded out Seton Hall's scoring on Sunday with a 10-over-par, 82. As opposed to Cha's scorecard, it was the back-nine that spelled trouble for O'Brien in the first round. After shooting even-par on the front, he was 10-over on the back, which included +3's on both holes 12 and 17.
With two rounds remaining, Seton Hall has an opportunity to move up in the standings. Missouri-Kansas City and Murray State are tied for eighth place, only four strokes ahead of Seton Hall. Gonzaga is in seventh, six strokes ahead of SHU, Utah is the sixth place team, seven strokes ahead, and host Loyola is 6-over-par, a mere eight strokes better than the Pirates.
