SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. -- Head Coach Clay White announced the 2016 Seton Hall men's golf spring schedule on Monday. The Pirates will participate in seven events this spring.
Seton Hall will open the spring season on Monday, February 15 for the first two of three rounds of golf at the Carlton Oaks WIU Invitational at Carlton Oaks Golf Club in Santee, Calif. Two weeks later, the Pirates will remain out west for three rounds at the Loyola Invitational at Palm Valley Golf Course in Goodyear, Ariz.
After nearly a three week break, The Hall will return to the links on March 19 for the first of three rounds of golf at the Kingsmill Intercollegiate, hosted by William & Mary University in Williamsburg, Va. A new event for the Pirates, it will be held over three days, and often features a strong field, including schools from the BIG EAST and Big Ten.
Two weeks later, Seton Hall will return to the Redhawk Invitational at Chambers Bay in University Place, Wash., April 4-5. The Pirates have played in this highly-competitive tournament dominated by Pac-12 teams in each of the last two years. Last spring, Lloyd Jefferson Go (Guadalupe Cebu City, Philippines) and Ryan Snouffer (Sparta, N.J.) tied for 12th place among 92 individual golfers as the Pirates finished fourth in the field of 18 teams.
A week later, Seton Hall will return to New Jersey for an old staple, the Princeton Invitational, April 9-10, at Springdale Golf Club. Last year, The Hall tied for second among 13 teams at a weather-shortened event. The second place tie was the best finish for the Pirates at Princeton since winning the tournament in 1994. Kevin O'Brien (Wexford, Pa.) tied for fourth with an impressive 2-over-par, 72-70-142.
The following week, the Pirates will head to Penn State University for the Rutherford Intercollegiate, April 16-17, for three rounds. Seton Hall didn't participate in this tournament last spring, but did so in 2014 and 2013. In 2014, The Hall finished second among 14 teams to only the University of Minnesota with a 20-over-par, 295-293-284-872. Go finished second among 78 individual golfers with a 3-under-par, 71-69-70-210, which is tied for the second-best three-round, par-71 score in Seton Hall history.
Finally, Seton Hall will wrap up competition for the 2015-16 academic year with the BIG EAST Championship, May 1-3. For a third straight season, each conference team will compete at the Callawassie Island Golf Club in Okatie, S.C. The Pirates placed sixth in the nine-team conference field in 2014, and improved two spots to finish fourth last spring with a 46-over-par, 308-296-306-910. Marquette claimed the team title at 33-over-par. Again, it was Go who led the Pirates, tying for third overall at 3-over-par. Snouffer also logged a top-10 finish, placing eighth at 6-over-par. Seton Hall will be seeking its first conference title since 2000 and third overall.
